Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring?
Bring weather-appropriate clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen (no banana sunscreen), snacks and drinks, and anything else you want for a comfortable day on the water. We’ll have the fishing gear covered.
Do I need to bring fishing gear?
Nope. Rods, reels, tackle, and the fishing equipment we need for the trip are all provided.Â
Do I need a Virginia fishing license?
No, when aboard Hardline with Captain Parker there is no need for a license due to it being a charter. Your license is included in your booking fee.
Can beginners and kids come?
Absolutely. Hardline Charters welcomes everyone from first-time anglers and families to experienced fishermen. We’ll adjust the trip to the experience level of your group and make sure everyone gets involved.
How many people can come?
Group size depends on the trip and booking option. Most trips are set up for small groups, but if you’re planning something bigger, reach out before you book and we’ll talk through the best setup. According to Coast Guard regulation 6 guests is the maximum for 1 charter trip.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety comes first. If conditions look unsafe or just not right for a good trip, the captain will contact you to talk through options, including rescheduling or the appropriate next step.
What time should we arrive?
Plan to arrive about 10–15 minutes before your scheduled departure time. That gives everyone time to get settled, go over a quick game plan, and head out on time.
Where do we meet?
Trips take place on Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia. Exact ramp/ marina and meeting details will be included in your confirmation so you know exactly where to go.
Can we keep the fish we catch?
In many cases, yes. Fish can be kept when it’s legal and within current Virginia regulations. We’ll make sure we’re following all size, season, and possession rules on every trip.
Can I bring food and drinks?
Yes. You’re welcome to bring snacks and drinks for the day. If you have questions about bringing alcohol, just ask ahead of time so we can make sure it fits within Hardline’s policies.
Can I bring bananas?
NO. Absolutely no bananas on the boat. Fishing superstition or not, we’re not testing it. Leave the bananas at home. Nothing banana flavor, scented, or iconed.
Are we guaranteed to catch fish?
No, a honest fishing guide cant guarantee what wild fish will do. What we can promise is that we’ll work hard to put you on fish using current conditions, experience, electronics, and proven striped bass techniques.
What happens after I book?
After you book, you’ll get a confirmation with your trip date and time, where to meet, when to arrive, what to bring, and anything else you need to know before we leave the dock.
